This Historic location has managed
to remain one of the Wests best-kept secrets, untouched by pollution
or over exposure in the Media. This unique site was formerly part of the
Estate of William Browne, 5th Viscount Mountmorris, and the layout of
the development will remain identical to how it looked in its heyday in
the 1880s. (see History of the Farmyard).
The cottages will be finished in local stone, with the remaining old
dwellings reinstated to their former glory. However, what is most remarkable
about the development is the astounding view: Ones vision extends
from the environs of Ashford Castle and Golden Bay in the east to the
azure blue of the lake interspersed with the multitude of islands, looking
southwards toward the green and yellow plains of Galway, and finally,
westwards towards the beginnings of the dramatic Maumturk Mountain range,
contrasting with the pretty, restful vision of Sorras, Peninsula in
the background.
Finished to the highest standards, the apartments are constructed
using concrete raft foundations with radon barrier and insulation. The
floors are finished in either terracotta ceramic tiles, hardwood or
softwood, and timber or beamed ceilings feature in living areas.
Roofs are finished with natural slate, and dormer openings feature
over first floor windows with natural cut stone copings on gables, cills,
lintel arches, corners and reveals.
Kitchens are finished in natural pine or sprayed finished with granite
or tiled tops and matching presses.
Note: Final area of each unit may vary to suit localised construction
details.

General Specification for Clós na Feirme
This was part of the estate of William Browne, 5th Viscount Mountmorris.
Originally built in 1803, the "Farmyard" as it was known to
the Landlords, was the core of activity in the Viscounts large estate.
After his assassination in 1881 by the Fenians, the lands and buildings
fell into ruin until 1997, when Mr. Holleran began its restoration.
The views from the Farmyard are truly spectacular and in an area that
remains unspoilt by the commercialism of today. It is locally regarded
as a place of "Olde Worlde Grandeur" with mysterious playgrounds
and now, finally, it is restored to the splendour it truly deserves.
Much work has been done to maintain the beauty of the craftsmanship
of the 1800's, while bringing it to the levels necessary for todays
highest standards. Outside, the original Orchards, Gardens and Spring-Water
Streams are being restored to their glory days - one can almost imagine
themselves in long velvet evening-wear attending candle-lit dinners
or taking long walks through the gardens, picking fresh fruit and flowers
for the kitchens and parlours.
John Joe Holleran, the owner of Connemara Cottages is delighted to
be finally realising his dream to restore the "old" Farmyard
to its former glory.
